A quick "how to" video for clients on resizing images correctly for your Wordpress website, using Pixlr Express.

Pixlr Express is a great online image editing tool. Find it here: www.pixlr.com/express/

Remember the best tip on resizing to a specific size is to resize first using the larger of the two numbers, then crop to the smaller of the two numbers.

ie. If your image size needs to be width = 1024, and height = 378.
Use the "resize" button and type the larger number (in this case width) into the width field.
Then "crop" by typing the smaller number (in this case our height) into the height field.

This is the sixth video in my series on how to make a professional website using WordPress. In this video I show you how to create a custom header for your site using Picasa, the awesome and amazing free photo editor and organizer. If you don't yet have Picasa, you should get it.

After that I show you how to either edit the sidebar or eliminate it completely using the optional front page template for the twenty twelve theme. I wanted to do more but I'm trying (not succeeding very well either) to keep these videos short and sweet.

I also show you how to use widgets and either put them in the sidebar or put them in the footer (using the optional front page template). One awesome widget I show you how to use is Jetpack's subscription widget, which allows site viewers to subscribe to your site. That is, they will get an email each time you add a post to your site. Amazing!

In my next video I'll probably go back to basics and take some time to show you how to use the visual editor and create links, bold text, etc. and explain how it differs from the text editor. Coming up in future videos as well: my favorite plugins and why I like them, how to back up your WordPress database, how to add pictures and videos, how to create a child theme, how to move your search box above the header, how to make rounded corners and MUCH MORE!
