The Pixlr filter called "MimicHDR" seems to do many things, but perhaps a little too strongly! This video demonstrates how you can use the darken and lighten blending modes to "tame" this filter somewhat for a quick yet dramatic adjustment, and then goes on to show using another layer with the "Hard Light" blending mode applied at 50%, after which I save the layers created so far, flatten them, and apply a curve to adjust things even more.
