Use the power of Adjustment Layers and Blending Options to turn a bright daytime image, into a semi-realistic nighttime image. While these settings may not give you 100% perfect results, you can use the same techniques on your images with a bit of tweaking.
This tutorial should work on all current versions of Photoshop, including Photoshop CS4, CS5 and CS6.
Tools used in this tutorial:
Adjustment Layers (Hue/Saturation, Brightness/Contrast): By using an Adjustment Layers, you're able to change targeted areas of your photo without damaging the original layer. These can either be applied to the full image, or specific areas using selections or Layer Masks. At any point in the future, you can either make changes to the adjustment, hide it, or delete it completely.
Layer Masks: If there's an area of your layer that you wish to hide (or bring back), Layer Masks will help you do that. Painting using a black brush will hide portions of the layer, and painting with a white brush will reveal them. Black and white gradients can also be used.
Layer Styles: If you're looking to add effects to your layers, you'll likely want to use Layer Styles. Whether it's an outer glow, a few shadows, or a bevel to give it depth, the possibilities are endless!

In this tutorial, Aaron Nace covers how to create blood from scratch using Photoshop. This is a special episode for Halloween week.
We decided to make a place for the blood to come out of the model, so some bite holes seemed appropriate. To make the holes in her neck we need to use some custom brush settings and layer FX. This helps give the holes a bit of depth and texture.
When it comes to the blood, using a reference image, we make a shape using the lasso tool, and then refine the edge to make it a bit more smooth. Then we paint in the selection to make the blood look layered.
To make the effects match the resolution and focus of the final image, we need to give it a bit of blur. From here you are free to move your effect around the image, and choose a place that will best suit the effect. To make the blood look as though it is flowing on the neck of the subject, we use the smudge tool. .

In today's episode we turn a portrait into a wonderful work of art using Photoshop custom brushes, various filters, and mixing blending modes. The first and most important step is to start with a photograph you love because this tutorial is a bit more in-depth than a few in the past. The reason I decided to post this tutorial is because of a recent job I used these techniques for. It was a lot of work, a lot of fun, and a lot of phlearning. You can use this processing technique as we do in today's episode, or apply it to your own images such as graphics and action shots. This can be used in a way to spice up a portrait that needs that extra kick.
We started by using filters such as cut-out to take away from the original to make it look more like a graphic image. Then we used a custom brush to create a splatter pattern, and using the colors within the image we created a pattern that can be incorporated over the portait to look like paint. Then we created a vignette using various blending modes to achieve the desired effect. .

Aviary falls somewhat in the middle. It has a wide range of features and effects, and yet is fairly simple to use. It's not necessarily the photo editor I would use to do a lot of fix-up or restoration on a photo, but for day-to-day, quick fix before I send it types of things, I think it works well. Which is why I added it to my "Favorite App" list.

How to convert your photos into useful video assets that can be tracked as though they were a true 3D object. Works best with symetrical side detail, but we have used this successfully with market squares, shopping malls and rooms. Try to avoid having people in the shot for obvious reasons!
