Best DSLR for $1200, What Photo Editing Software to Use & More! | Q&A Ep.9

It's the Christmas Edition Q&A and we've got questions about what DSLR camera to buy for $1200, what photo editing software to use, adapters for getting MORE light through a lens, adjusting exposure in Manual Mode and more!

The Photoshop & Lightroom Math:

The standalone price for both Photoshop and Lightroom (when photoshop was still available as a standalone program) was $850 (Photoshop for $700 + Lightroom for $1500

The Creative Cloud Photography program is $10 a month and gets you both Photoshop and Lightroom.

With the Creative Cloud subscription you always have the most up to date versions of Photoshop and Lightroom.

With the standalone software you have the versions you purchased and any updates issued to that software version, but new version releases (roughly every two years) required upgrade purchases.

For the one time price of purchasing the software as a standalone product, you get the up to date Creative Cloud package for 85 months, or just over 7 years. (850 / 10 = 85)

But with the standalone software, in two years (24 months), if you wanted the new version of Photoshop you’d need to pay a $300 upgrade price. For a new version of Lightroom you pay a $79 upgrade price.

So if the software is updated every two years, in order to stay up to date over the same seven years of using Creative Cloud, you’d need to upgrade three times, spending an additional $1137.

That same $1137 will get you the Creative Cloud subscription for another 113 months (9.4 years) (assuming the monthly price of $10)

So in my opinion, the monthly cost of $10 for the most up to date versions of Lightroom and Photoshop is a hell of a deal!
